@Alan: Then you did it the RIGHT way - finding the problem and killing it. :) Nice!

Doh!

Well that'll teach me to read the instructions more carefully :) Still ... my skills of figuring stuff out has improved now. I discovered /var/log for the first time! Very useful place to discover what's going on!

Thanks again.

Hi, Alan. You're absolutey right - the steps for Fedora 14 are a bit different than for 12. That's why the first paragraph of this post links to my updated instructions that are specific to Fedora 14. :) Glad to see you figured it out, tho!

Great guide, thanks :)

I did unfortunately hit two problems when trying to follow your instructions with a fresh install of Fedora14:

1. SSHD server wasn't enabled/running on Fedora so I had to start this up (and first install the services config manager to the desktop)

2. When attempting to access VNC from outside my router I kept getting "The connection closed unexpectedly" messages from my VNC client. This turned out to be because of SELinux on Fedora blocking SSHD from doing name_connect access. My SELinux gave me a command to run as root which solved the problem.

After finding out about these problems on the interweb it all worked fine!

Hope this helps anyone else having similar issues :)
